COLUMBIA, S.C (WPDE) — This weekend, former President Donald Trump came to Columbia for his first official campaign stop as he seeks another run at the Oval Office.

Trump announced a team of political leaders that will guide his campaign for president during the primary election process in South Carolina. Among them is Rep. Russell Fry of Congressional District 7. That District includes the Pee Dee region and Fry hails from Surfside Beach.

"He’s rolling out an incredible leadership team and I’m excited to be part of it," Rep. Fry said on social media.

Mr. Trump's team includes Fry, Lt. Governor Pamela Evetter as well as Andre Bauer who once held the Lt. Governor seat as well. In addition to them, Governor McMaster, former Ambassador Ed McMullen, Senator Lindsey Graham, Upstate Congressman Will Timmons, and former Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney Peter McCoy Jr.

During the press conference, Trump reiterated several talking points used in recent years: false claims of election fraud, and claims of a weaker military while citing Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan. Trump made further claims that the justice system was flawed, while often making comparisons to his previous tenure in office.

While Trump remains the only declared 2024 presidential candidate, potential challengers, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley are expected to get their campaigns underway in the coming months.
