Michigan state Rep. Matt Maddock, R-Milford, an ally of former President Donald Trump and the husband of Michigan GOP co-chair Meshawn Maddock, was removed from the House Republican caucus Tuesday.
Gideon D'Assandro, a spokesperson for state House Speaker Jason Wentworth, confirmed Maddock was kicked out of the caucus in a text message. He did not provide an explanation, writing that "the caucus doesn't discuss internal issues."
Maddock did not immediately respond to a voice message seeking comment.
Caucuses typically include all members of a party elected and serving. It is rare, but not unprecedented, for a member to be excluded.
The websites for the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan House Republicans no longer list Maddock as member.
Maddock was first elected to the state House in 2018 and was reelected in 2020 to represent an Oakland County district that includes Highland, Milford, Springfield, Waterford and White Lake townships. He is currenlty seeking a third term and had been vying to serve as the state House's next GOP leader.
