Sen. Dan Sullivan, eager to curry favor with Donald Trump, is calling for the head of career prosecutor Jack Smith, claiming to be a fellow victim.

Smith is the special counsel who investigated Trump’s attempt to overthrow the government after losing the 2020 election. Senate Republicans, including Sullivan, have joined Trump’s campaign to get revenge on Smith, who secured two indictments.

Sullivan is spreading a lie that Smith “spied” on Sullivan and seven other Republican senators and invaded their privacy because “we are Republicans who support President Trump.” Sullivan has lied that Smith was “surveilling” his personal cell phone calls.

Sullivan claims that Smith engaged in professional misconduct against Sullivan when he got a grand jury subpoena to provide a list of phone numbers showing calls made or received by Sullivan during the insurrection on January 6, 2021.

What Sullivan and four other Republicans have alleged in a letter to Trump Attorney General Pam Bondi attacking Smith is complete nonsense.

The collection of phone logs is routine and it was warranted because Sullivan was one of the senators Rudy Giuliani called twice on January 6th, looking for help in illegally overturning the election of Joe Biden as president.
