Riverside County denies vote count allegations; sheriff investigating - The Desert Sun

Responding to allegations made by a group with Republican ties, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office is investigating what it described as "alleged irregularities" in the county's recent statewide special election.

The investigation comes as Sheriff Chad Bianco, a Trump supporter who has spent years blasting Democratic state leaders, is running for governor as a Republican. Polls show he is among the leading candidates.

President Donald Trump and many of his supporters have made claims for years of widespread election fraud, none of which have been proven. Trump continues to repeat the false claim that he won the 2020 election and that it was stolen from him through fraud.

The group whose complaint led to the Riverside County investigation has ties to a right-wing group, United Sovereign Americans — members of which have filed lawsuits claiming election fraud or voter registration errors in states across the nation.

Some have been dismissed by judges, and as in Riverside County, election officials in the other states have said the complaints are based on an incorrect understanding of the process.

The local group, which calls itself the Riverside Election Integrity Team, said its own review of ballot records found 45,896 more ballots counted than were documented as received in the Nov. 4 election on Proposition 50, which temporarily replaces California's existing congressional districts with an alternative map designed to elect more Democrats in the U.S. House of...
