Ro Khanna Supports FBI Investigation Of Death Of Whistleblower Suchir Balaji - India West

FREMONT, CA — On January 15, California Congressman Ro Khanna called for a “full and transparent” investigation into the death of Suchir Balaji, the OpenAI whistleblower who gained national attention last year for alleging that the company violated federal copyright laws.

Khanna’s call came in response to concerns raised by Balaji’s family following the San Francisco County Medical Examiner’s preliminary ruling that the 26-year-old’s death was a suicide. Balaji was found dead in his San Francisco apartment nearly two months ago, sparking doubts from his parents about the cause. In response to these concerns, they have commissioned a separate autopsy, although the findings have not been released.

In his post on social media site X, Khanna expressed his condolences, writing, “I am heartbroken by your loss,” and added that, given the family’s concerns about potential foul play, “there should be a full and transparent investigation into the death by the FBI or appropriate agency.”

Khanna’s comment was reply to a tweet from Balaji’s mother, Poornima Ramarao, who had tagged Vivek Ramaswamy and Kash Patel in her tweet calling for an investigation into the death of her son.
