ROTTERDAM — Citing concerns about election integrity, the Rotterdam Town Board on Wednesday called for an audit of last year’s general election via a resolution written by an organization that claims widespread election fraud based on the work of a prominent election denier who’s been debunked on numerous occasions.
The resolution, approved in a 4-0 vote, was brought forward by Republican Joseph Mastroianni, who said an audit of last year’s election “was much overdue” and would help restore people’s faith in democracy, despite there being no credible evidence of voter fraud during the past two elections.
“Our constitutional system of representative government only works when the worth of honest ballots is not diluted by invalid ballots procured by corruption, and assuring accuracy can only be achieved through the operational integrity of our elections,” the resolution reads.
Mastroianni, Jack Dodson, Evan Christou and Supervisor Mollie Collins voted in favor of the resolution. Samantha Miller-Herrera was not in attendance.
The resolution calls for county, state and federal lawmakers, law enforcement, judges and state and federal prosecutors to “provide relief to the people, and the assurance of domestic tranquility” by completing an end-to-end audit of the state’s 2022 general election and adopt voting reforms to ensure accuracy in future elections.
