Russia has launched a new wave of propaganda claiming that Ukrainian forces are hiding in residential buildings in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, and that locals are allegedly providing their addresses to Russian troops
The Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) has refuted the fake story.
“Russian propaganda is once again trying to justify terrorist attacks on Ukrainian cities by spreading lies about the Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly ‘hiding in residential buildings,’” the CCD said on its Telegram channel.
Kremlin-linked media reports claim that Ukrainian soldiers use residential areas as cover and that civilians are helping occupying Russian forces by providing coordinates. The CCD emphasized that these narratives are fabricated to rationalize attacks on civilian infrastructure and shift responsibility for these crimes onto Ukraine.
“In reality, such statements are yet another cynical attempt to justify Russia's daily terrorist attacks on Ukrainian cities. Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and other frontline regions regularly suffer from airstrikes, missiles, and drones, resulting in civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure,” the center noted.
- Earlier, on October 3, the CCD reported that after a missile strike on grain-carrying trucks, the Russian Ministry of Defense spread false claims that 20 military trucks and Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel had been destroyed.
