Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Sunday, November 30, received reports from his generals claiming that Russia had captured the towns of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region and Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov and Russian media.
According to Peskov, in the evening of November 30, Putin visited one of the Russian military command posts, where Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov and other commanders briefed him on the capture of Pokrovsk and Vovchansk.
Peskov added that the Russian military leadership also reported to Putin on the progress of offensive operations in other directions.
Putin's false claims about capturing Ukrainian cities
On December 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that, despite Russia's claims, Ukrainian defenders had cleared nearly all Russian soldiers from Kupiansk.
On November 20, Putin claimed that up to 15 Ukrainian battalions had been blocked in Kupiansk, while Gerasimov reported the "liberation" of the town.
Earlier, on October 26, Russian generals told Putin that in some areas Ukrainian troops had been encircled. Among the encircled towns mentioned was Kupiansk. Putin even wanted to invite media representatives to the town.
Recently, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said Ukrainian forces have been actively eliminating Russian troops in Pokrovsk over the past week, clearing more than a third of the town from the enemy.
