A retired officer’s unsupported theory gained a new life online, revealing how propaganda can turn personal opinion into an alleged state strategy.
The claim that Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly plans to provoke Russia, drag the United States into the war, and start World War III is manipulative. Russian media outlets present this version as an established fact, even though it is based solely on the personal speculation of retired U.S. Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis.

Davis provided no evidence that the plan he attributes to the Ukrainian president exists. His conclusion is a subjective interpretation that Russian propaganda presents as an allegedly exposed Ukrainian strategy.
At the same time, Daniel Davis is not a serving representative of the U.S. Army. He completed his military service in 2015 and now works as an analyst at the organization Defense Priorities. Davis has long opposed expanding U.S. support for Ukraine and previously said that Kyiv should accept Russia’s terms for ending the war.
Ukraine’s official statements indicate a different approach: strengthening air defenses, increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, and using diplomacy to end the war.
