A year into his third term, Santa Rosa Sheriff Bob Johnson says he does not plan to run again for sheriff in 2028, a decision he believes that may have contributed to a "split" in the Sheriff's Office.
Johnson announced his decision while speaking to the Santa Rosa Board of County Commissioners and defending against accusations of misconduct and toxic leadership that have been leveled against his administration by some, including a whistleblower complaint that was sent anonymously to the board and Gov. Ron DeSantis, among others.
Johnson spoke to the board during its Jan. 8 meeting to address the allegations that he said are based on “politics” and have split the ranks of the sheriff’s department into camps behind certain individuals who he says may have their own political agendas.
