KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General has taken an oath before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee, committing to testify under oath about allegations of political interference, corruption, and the disbandment of the police unit investigating political killings in the province.

These include claims that the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) was unlawfully disbanded, that a moratorium was placed on police recruitment, and that senior SAPS officials had improper relationships with members of the public. He also alleged direct political interference in the running of the police in KwaZulu-Natal.
Ad Hoc Committee chairperson Molapi Lekganyane informed Mkhwanazi that he could choose to take either an oath or an affirmation before giving evidence.
This, he explained, would place the Commissioner under legal obligation to speak the truth while granting him protection under the Powers, Privileges and Immunities of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act.
"You may choose to take the oath or the affirmation," said Lekganyane. "I will then check with you, General Mkhwanazi, if you choose to take oath or affirmation."
Mkhwanazi said: “I'll take an oath, sir.”
He was then sworn in, stating: “I, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, swear that the evidence I shall give shall be the truth, the whole truth, nothing else but the truth, so help me God.”
