Saudi introduces amendments in labour law, allows 12 week maternity leave to women workers - ETHRWorld Middle East

Saudi’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has announced amendments in its labour law. The amendment extends maternity leave to 12 weeks, revises termination notice periods to 30 days for employees and 60 days for employers, and sets a 180-day probation period. The law also mandates equal opportunities, introduces sibling bereavement leave, and allows overtime compensation through vacation days with employee consent.

Saudi Arabia has introduced new amendments to its labour law, aimed at enhancing worker rights and improving employer-employee relations. Announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the changes cover maternity leave, notice periods, probation rules, and other workforce regulations. The ministry expects these updates to create a more attractive labour market, aligning with ongoing labour reforms to boost productivity and job satisfaction.

Women employees can now take up to 12 weeks of maternity leave, with six weeks mandatory after delivery and the remaining six weeks available at their discretion. Eligibility begins four weeks before the expected delivery date. Additionally, employees are entitled to three days of leave upon the death of a sibling. Employers may offer vacation days as compensation for overtime, subject to employee consent.
