Schumer highlighted how a temporary freeze on federal funding threatened operations at health centers reliant on federal reimbursements.
During a visit to Syracuse Community Health, Schumer detailed how the center struggled to access $200,000 in federal funds. The Upstate Family Health Center in Utica is still awaiting $71,000, which has caused financial strain. Leaders expressed concerns over sudden policy changes and their unpredictable impact.
Schumer warned that closures of community health centers could push uninsured patients into emergency rooms, increasing wait times and straining hospital resources.
