SEC Awards More Than $28 Million to Four Whistleblowers - Lexology

The SEC awarded more than $28 million to four whistleblowers who provided the SEC with information that led to a successful enforcement.

In its Order, the SEC said that the information provided by the whistleblowers prompted the opening of the investigation, and the whistleblowers also provided ongoing assistance throughout the investigation. The SEC said that it had considered a whistleblower application from an additional witness, but denied the claim, stating that the witness did not provide the information voluntarily, nor did the witness submit the information through the appropriate channels.

The SEC said that the award was made jointly because the whistleblowers submitted information through the same counsel and provided substantively identical whistleblower award applications. The SEC said that each whistleblower will receive 25 percent of the award unless an application requesting a different allocation is submitted.
