SEC issues more than $4 million in whistleblower awards - Business Insurance

The Securities and Exchange Commission said Monday it has granted two awards totaling more than $4 million to whistleblowers who provided information and assistance in two separate cases.

In the first order, the SEC awarded about $2.6 million to a whistleblower who provided significant new information to an existing investigation that alerted agency staff to misconduct occurring overseas, which would have been difficult to detect otherwise, the SEC said in a statement.

In the second order, the SEC awarded about $1.5 million to joint whistleblowers who provided substantial ongoing assistance during an investigation.

The SEC does not release information that could reveal whistleblowers’ identities.
