Second Russian company calls EU espionage claims ‘false,’ decries product ban - intrafish.com

Murman SeaFood says its vessels ‘have never been engaged in commercial activities in the Norwegian North Sea.’

Murman SeaFood Co. Ltd. has issued a detailed denial of espionage allegations that resulted in EU sanctions against the company and another Russian whitefish exporter, expressing “surprise and disappointment” at the bloc’s decision to ban its products.

“Our activities are aimed at producing food products from fish, and nothing more,” Vladimir Khizhnyakov, the Russian company’s general director, wrote in a statement sent to IntraFish on Wednesday.

“The Murman SeaFood company expresses its categorical protest against this decision,” he wrote. “The said decision [to impose sanctions] is based on completely false premises that absolutely do not correspond to the actual state of affairs.
