PLYMOUTH CO. — Supervisor Gary Horton brought forth the secondary roads wage proposal to the Board of Supervisors for the upcoming fiscal year at Tuesday’s meeting.
Horton notified the board their bargaining unit countered the board’s proposal. Initially, the board of supervisors went to the table with a 6 percent salary increase for all employees with the department’s two mechanics earning an additional $1.50 per hour.
Last week’s communication had the bargaining unit sending a proposal back accepting those terms with the exception of asking for an additional $.50 per hour raise on top of the 6 percent for all employees.
The increase, which would impact roughly 32 positions, would equate to about a 7.9 percent salary increase instead of the supervisor’s proposed 6 percent.
When negotiations began, the bargaining unit requested an 8 percent increase.
With a consensus, the board directed Horton to notify the bargaining unit they would be sticking with the 6 percent proposal for all employees, plus the $1.50 per hour addition for the two mechanics.
Horton said he anticipates having an answer from the unit representatives by next week’s meeting. If they choose to not accept the board’s proposal they will go into arbitration, where according to Iowa law the employees would only receive the cost of living not to exceed 3 percent.
In other items, Secondary Roads Superintendent Tom Rohe informed the board he would like to move the bid letting back to November or December of 2022...
