County says it found no evidence of federal age-based property tax change
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) — Sedgwick County is warning residents about a claim circulating online that directs homeowners born in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s to contact their local appraiser’s office and request a form 1098-SR.
The county said it reviewed the claim and found no evidence that Congress enacted a federal age-based property tax assessment change.
Sedgwick County noted that property tax assessment and associated relief programs are generally handled at the state and local level.
Kansas homeowners are encouraged to rely on official information from the Kansas Department of Revenue, the Sedgwick County Appraiser’s Office and the Sedgwick County Treasurer’s Office. The county also encouraged homeowners to consult tax professionals with questions about their individual tax situations.
