The Region of Peel (Peel Region) is a regional government in Ontario, Canada.
Founded in 1974, it serves approximately 1.5-million people and more than 175,000 businesses in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon.
Headquartered in Brampton, Ontario, Peel Region provides a variety of programs and services, including paramedic services, child care support, garbage collection, water treatment, and road maintenance.
According to LinkedIn, the regional government employs a total workforce of more than 4,000 people.
On May 18, 2023, the Ontario government announced that it has begun the process of dissolving Peel Region, paving the way for Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon to become independent cities by 2025.
Municipal Affairs Minister Steve Clark told reporters during a news conference that if the Hazel McCallion Act is passed, he would “appoint a transition board to help [the] municipalities become single-tier on Jan. 1, 2025.”
