Sheetz employee facing charges for false claims of a robbery and causing evacuation of building - WFXRtv.com

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Customers and employees were forced to evacuate a Sheetz building on Saturday night after reports of a robbery at the business located on Timberlake Road in Lynchburg.

According to a manager, an employee reported the incident to Saturday night’s manager.

They say when police arrived on the scene, there was no threat or robbery. Now, this employee who reported the incident is facing charges.

The Lynchburg Police Department confirmed that 22-year-old Preetjot Tobias Singh is the Sheetz employee who claimed a robbery was taking place.

Singh has since been arrested and is now facing charges of embezzlement for less than $200, obstruction of justice for a false report on the commission of a crime to police, and obstruction of justice for resisting arrest, and obstructing justice without threats or force.

The manager that spoke with WFXR News says investigators told them Singh may have been hallucinating at the time and said that security footage shows he might have stolen money from the store.

Sheetz has not released the video and the manager says Singh is now suspended from work.

Sheetz employees say they aren’t able to give any more information at this time.

As of Sunday night, a bond had not been set for Singh.

The Lynchburg Police Department says they plan to release more information on Monday.
