Sherwin-Williams Co. will pay $1 million to resolve alleged False Claims Act violations that it participated in a scheme to defraud the federal Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program, the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Philadelphia said Thursday.
In 2011, Hercules-Vimas Joint Venture LLC was awarded a contract by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to paint the George C. Platt Memorial Bridge. This contract required that a portion of work be performed by a DBE, according to the office.
To fulfill the requirement, Hercules-Vimas subcontracted with Vertech International, Inc., a Pennsylvania DBE, to supply materials, prosecutors said.
