SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - In the latest of advertisements this political season, the negative ads have now brought their attention to the mayoral race.
“Data center sell out.” The PAC called “Government That Works” claims that Sioux Falls mayoral candidate Christine Erickson wants higher electric bills for Sioux Falls residents. Erickson’s comments on the record do not exactly align with what the ad says, but that doesn’t change the fact that people will see it.
Erickson responded to the ad by calling the claims “blatantly false.”
Erickson has stressed the importance of thoroughly vetting data centers, saying they need to cover their costs and not force electric rate increases on residents.
“It is absolutely critical to keep our data here and not ship it overseas. It’s a national defense. And so, for me, it’s a case-by-case. I hear you loud and clear. I know there are concerns,” Erickson said at a Downtown Sioux Falls Rotary Club meeting in June.
Amid all the attacks from outsiders, Erickson previously said she values focusing on a positive future for Sioux Falls.
