CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Charleston Area Medical Center is facing a lawsuit from six former employees over firings after COVID-19 vaccine religious exemptions were allegedly denied.
According to a news release from Scott Evans Law PLLC, representing the former employees, the six assert that they were denied religious exemptions for the vaccine and wrongfully discharged from employment.
“I view these lawsuits as critically important to be prosecuted because this is how in a free society we defend the guaranteed rights of all Americans to pursue their own sincerely held religious beliefs and to worship as their conscience dictates,” Evans stated in the news release. “I believe that these cases are extremely important to bring forward so the public can understand the scope and severity of just how egregiously these former employees’ fundamental religious liberties were violated.”
According to a letter from CAMC to hospital staff and applicants dated Oct. 8, 2021, it was announced that all CAMC employees and clinical team members would have to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
