Skibbereen School Go To Gardaí After False Claims Of Student Identifying As A Cat - Balls.ie

A school in Skibbereen has been forced to go the the gardaí after a false story about one of their pupils identifying as a cat grew some serious legs on social media.

The story was initially spread via a WhatsApp voice message where it detailed the tale of a student identifying as a cat, who then requests a litter tray, before her parents sue the school after a teacher barked at the student after they meowed at them.

One cannot help but laugh after typing out such a sentence, which is clearly false without need for further research.

However, there were many on social media who believed the story was or could be true, while others blamed the incident on far-right trolling.

Because the story gathered such momentum, the school also sent out a message to parents yesterday, informing them that the claims were completely baseless.

"We have been made aware that this WhatsApp message is circulating and that we can state that this message is without foundation and that no element of it is true and that the appropriate authorities have been informed," said school principal Anton O'Mahony.
