Smithfield Fresh Meats Corp. allegedly failed to properly pay employees for the time spent donning and doffing required sanitary clothing, according to a new lawsuit.
Brandon Franklin, an employee of Smithfield, said that for a three-year period he and other employees performed unpaid work for 10-15 minutes per day that was necessary to their job duties. He sued Tuesday in the US District Court for the Central District of Illinois asserting violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act and Illinois law.
