Smokey Robinson is fighting back against female employees who accused him of sexual battery. Robinson was sued for $50 million for his charges, but is countering with accusations of slander, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and financial elder abuse. The lawsuit is seeking $500 million.
According to Variety, Robinson calls out allegations levied against him as “fabricated in support of their extortionate scheme.” Adding, “The Robinsons did not abuse, harm or take advantage of Plaintiffs; they treated Plaintiffs with the utmost kindness and generosity.”
Robinson claims pre-litigation demands reached $100 million, which he denied, leading to a public suit.
The 85-year-old singer is being sued for sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence, and creating a hostile work environment by four women. Smokey Robinson’s lawyer has responded to the lawsuit.
“Through this process we have seen the bizarre theatrics of yesterday’s news conference, as the plaintiffs’ attorneys outlined vile, false allegations against Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, trying to enlist the public as an unwitting participant in the media circus they are trying to create,” said attorney Christopher Frost. “We ask anyone following this case to reserve judgment as the evidence comes to light and all the actual facts of the case unfold.
