A Hull man sobbed he was the 'real victim' and the complainant was a 'liar' after he was sentenced for breaching a restraining order made against him.
The man sent text messages and made social media posts about another man claiming he was a 'paedophile'. The victim had been so distressed by the false allegations that he feared the defendant or other people would come into his home and attack him.
Trevor Sheldrake, 46, of Greenwood Avenue, Hull, admitted to three counts of breaching a restraining order at Hull Crown Court. Ben Hammersley, prosecuting, told the court Sheldrake was initially given an indefinite restraining order to stay away from two individuals on July 7, 2015.

However, on three instances, namely on March 15, October 4 and October 17 2021, he sent text messages to one of the men and posted on social media that he was a paedophile. Mr Hammersley said Sheldrake believed the restraining order was only in place for five years, and did not realise it was a lifetime order. Sheldrake has 14 previous convictions for 37 offences, including a previous breach of order in 2016.
In a victim personal statement read in court, the victim said he had been called a paedophile online and had become very fearful for his and his family's safety. It has come to a point where his wife sleeps with the bedroom door open in fear that individuals like Sheldrake would barge in.
