Social Conservatives Understand Economics Poorly - Ordinary Times

I keep seeing this meme from social conservatives, and it is so wrong-headed it makes
me grind my teeth.

First, and probably the least negative impact, is that government has no constitutional authority to set the prices of goods, services, labor etc. I mean, this is definitely an insidiously large psychological impact, failing to understand the basic concept that government is limited to enumerated powers (not rights) that it exercises on behalf of the people through the temporary, and most significantly, the limited delegation of authority to government officials. But the bigger problem is basic economic ignorance.

Things just don't work that way. It is no more subject to legislation than the 3rd law of thermodynamics.

Economics is not a set of rules we enacted to “create capitalism”. It is the study of how decisions are made, taking into account the basic and immutable characteristic of all living organisms; that we seek benefit and try to avoid pain.

Suggestion: LET'S LEAVE THE POLITICS OF ENVY AND RESENTMENT OUT OF IT.

This is not a good argument for Republicans, Libertarians, or Constitutionalists of any stripe. The real problem here isn't that the slackers and motivated employees get temporarily leveled. Leave the judgmental cultural preferences behind. The traditions of our people are not the laws of nature.
