Social media claims of attempted child abductions at central Pa. stores are false: police - PennLive

Circulating social media posts about attempts to kidnap children from York County convenience stores are inaccurate, police said Tuesday.

The posts claim the Northern School District emailed parents, informing them someone tried to abduct children by putting an air tag tracker on their cars while they were at the Sheetz and Rutter’s along Route 15 in Dillsburg.

“There were no reports to our police department, no witnesses to the attempted ‘abduction’ and no reports to any of the stores,” Carroll Township police said.

“We also contacted the superintendent’s office for the Northern School District who confirmed that they did not send out any communication regarding the attempted abduction(s). We want to ensure our community that we have a close working relationship with our school district and, if at any time there is a threat to public safety, we will communicate that with the community.”

Police said the Rutter’s and Sheetz told investigators they did not know anything about attempted abductions on their properties.

“Please use caution when sharing posts that you see online that may not be accurate as it may cause unnecessary panic,” police said.
