Social media fuels false claims of armed robbery in Goshen - WSBT

GOSHEN, Ind. (WSBT) — Goshen Police were called to the 600 block of North Second Street for reports of an armed robbery with a deadly weapon on Sunday morning.

Posts on social media claimed over 20 people were arrested.

According to one woman, it was being blown out of proportion.

She said kids had a party that got too big too fast.

According to police, the 26-year-old victim was not hurt in the incident.

"In a vacuum we have to realize that there’s a lot of things that are untrue or at a minimum exaggerated and it’s a tough one for you and I to figure out how true is this. You have to look at a lot of things, use common sense, or context clues or some discernment," said Jason Samuel, Goshen College associate professor of communications.

Goshen Police there were no arrests made and the incident remains under investigation.
