Soldier allegedly misleads Abia State Government with false claims of killing notorious kidnap kingpin
Independent sources familiar with the 2010 military operation against the infamous Abia-born kidnap kingpin, Obioma Nwankwo, popularly known as “Osisikankwu,” have revealed that Staff Sergeant Amoke Simon, a serving soldier, allegedly presented a false narrative to the Abia State Government about his role in the high-profile operation.
Eyewitnesses and officers directly involved in the Aba operation told Zagazola Makama that Amoke Simon was not part of the team that conducted the raids leading to the arrest and neutralization of “Osisikankwu.”
They stated that the operation, which dismantled the gang terrorizing Aba and surrounding communities between 2008 and 2010, was executed by a coordinated group of army personnel and security operatives without his involvement. Despite this, the sources said, Amoke Simon approached the Abia State Government, claiming to have played a leading role in the mission.
Acting on his account, Governor Alex Otti reportedly visited the soldier at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Council, and pledged to sponsor him for overseas medical treatment to aid his recovery from injuries sustained during unrelated military service in the North-East.
