“I don't think it was the right call. South Africa is, is a country on its own. I don't think we need to explain ourselves to USA… to US. Yeah, whatever they think about South Africa, he should have just let it be. We know where we stand, we as South Africans we know there's no white genocide. So for me, it was pointless exercise.”

"I think Donald Trump, he thinks, he is a leader of the whole world. So I think what he did, Cyril Ramaphosa, to prove them that is, we don't have no separation in this country. We believe, as South Africans. That's why we call ourselves the rainbow nation."

The televised meeting stirred up debate at home about the need for swift clarification of misconceptions regarding mass killings and seizures from white people. South Africa has one of the highest murder rates in the world, but the overwhelming majority of victims are Black.

Ramaphosa had hoped to use Wednesday's meeting to reset his country's relationship with the U.S., after Trump canceled much-needed aid to South Africa, offered refuge to white minority Afrikaners, expelled the country's ambassador and criticized its genocide court case against Israel.

"We know where we stand, we as South Africans we know there's no white genocide," Johannesburg resident, Sabelo Motha said.
