South Korea Probes YouTuber Over False Mutilated Body Claims - 조선일보

The Korean National Police Agency has launched an investigation into Daebojjang, a Korean YouTuber active in Japan. Daebojjang, who has approximately 960,000 subscribers, recently sparked controversy by spreading false information claiming, “Many mutilated bodies are frequently discovered in South Korea.”

According to a source from the Korean National Police Agency, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s cyber investigation team announced on the 5th, “We have initiated an investigation into a YouTuber who disseminated fabricated information online in Japan and will respond strictly. We recognize this act as a serious crime. After accurately verifying the facts, we will take measures in accordance with relevant laws.”

The police plan to request cooperation from YouTube to confirm Daebojjang’s nationality and residence, and review the application of charges under the Basic Telecommunications Act. Authorities judged that Daebojjang’s actions caused public anxiety, social confusion, and damaged the national image. They also viewed it as an act harming national interests, negatively impacting foreign visits to and investments in South Korea.
