Special Counsel Questions Coupang Whistleblower on Severance Pay Probe - 조선일보

The special investigation team led by Ahn Kwon-seop, which is probing suspicions of external pressure in the Coupang retirement pay investigation, is questioning Kim Joon-ho, who publicly reported the alleged "Coupang blacklist," as a reference witness on the 31st.

Kim arrived at the Special Counsel’s office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the same day and stated, “(Coupang’s change in employment rules) was inappropriate, in my opinion.” He added, “Originally, retirement pay was given to daily workers, but from a certain point, the non-payment situation gradually increased,” and noted, “There were instances where the company demanded the preparation of related documents.”

Kim worked in the HR Recruitment Team at the Hof Logistics Center of Coupang Fulfillment Service (CFS) from November 2022 to April 2023. Immediately after resigning, he publicly reported that Coupang used a blacklist document called the “PNG List” to exclude certain daily worker job applicants. On this day, the Special Counsel plans to verify with Kim how the hiring process for daily workers and the non-payment of retirement pay were conducted.

The Special Counsel is also investigating suspicions that Coupang changed its employment rules in May 2023 to the disadvantage of workers, failing to properly pay retirement benefits to daily workers who were effectively regular employees.
