COLOMBO, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's cabinet of ministers has approved a proposal to amend the Shop and Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) Act to allow women employed in certain sectors to engage in night shifts, the government's information department said on Tuesday.
Women working in information technology companies, knowledge outsourcing, business process outsourcing, and offices performing accounts, administration and technical activities for foreign businesses can now legally take on night shifts, the department said.
The attorney general has approved the amendments to the act and it will be published soon in a gazette, the department said.
