Georgia gubernatorial candidate and chronic science denier Stacey Abrams is once again spreading lies to justify her extremist abortion agenda. This time, she’s denying that it’s possible to know when pregnancy officially begins.
“The arbitrary standards of timelines ignore the medical reality that it is a fallacy we know exactly when the pregnancy starts, that we know exactly where we are in the system, I mean, in the term,” Abrams told Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream.
As modern science, medicine, the federal government, and many states have determined, this is blatantly false.
For decades, medical textbooks have recognized that life begins at conception, which is classified as the moment an egg, produced by a woman, is fertilized by sperm, produced by a man.
“[The zygote] results from the union of an oocyte and a sperm. A zygote is the beginning of a new human being. Human development begins at fertilization, the process during which a male gamete or sperm … unites with a female gamete or oocyte … to form a single cell called a zygote. This highly specialized, totipotent cell marks the beginning of each of us as a unique individual,” Dr. Keith L. Moore wrote in “The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology.”
Even Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion supplier in the U.S. and proud supporter of Abrams’ first gubernatorial campaign, concedes that “Pregnancy officially starts when a fertilized egg implants in the lining of the uterus.”
