State: Murdaugh defense making 'egregious,' 'brazen' false statements - Greenville Online

The contentious "back-and-forth" continues in the highly anticipated double-murder retrial of State of South Carolina v. Richard Alexander Murdaugh, with the defense repeatedly claiming prosecutors are withholding or delaying discovery evidence, and the State accusing Murdaugh's attorneys of lying.

With Murdaugh once again facing a trial in the 2021 murders of two family members, the latest pretrial salvo came Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the form of a strongly worded "Response in opposition to, and correction of false statements in, the defense motion to compel cell phone extract files defendant already received."

On Sept. 28, Murdaugh's attorneys filed a motion to compel the release of cell phone extraction files, claiming the State gave them a discovery packet that contained only inadequate reports, and not complete data, and in response the S.C. Attorney General's Office, for at least the third time in three months, accused the defense of making false statements.
