Steelmaker ArcelorMittal Closing Hamilton Facility Amid US Trade War - Samfiru Tumarkin LLP
What’s Happening at ArcelorMittal?
ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada plans to close its wire drawing mill in Hamilton, Ontario in the “coming weeks” — affecting approximately 153 jobs.
“The wire drawing activities…will now be entirely concentrated at the Montreal site,” the steelmaker said in a news release.
“This decision will allow [ArcelorMittal] to achieve a level of performance in line with the objectives and standards expected in the highly competitive long products steel markets.”
It’s unclear if affected staff will be laid off or given an opportunity to transfer to the company’s Montreal facility.
