What’s Happening at Stellantis?

Feeling the effect of the Canada-US trade war, Stellantis is moving Jeep Compass production from its Brampton assembly plant to Illinois — affecting hundreds of jobs in Ontario.

The Brampton facility has been shut down since early 2024 for retooling. However, that work was halted in February as US President Donald Trump began to threaten enhanced duties on Canadian goods.

“This announcement represents a step backward from [Stellantis’] commitment to modernize and retool the Brampton facility — a commitment that gave its 3,000 workers and their families hope for a secure and sustainable future in auto manufacturing.”
