BALTIMORE (WBFF) — An eye-opening Project Baltimore investigation has found the number of student arrests in Baltimore City Schools has plummeted 98 percent. However, the drop in arrests doesn’t necessarily mean schools are safer. In fact, it could be making them more dangerous.
Every year, for the past seven years, Baltimore has seen more than 300 murders. The city is fighting an epidemic of crime and violence, and it’s not just confined to our streets.
Project Baltimore spoke with two whistleblowers who asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation. Both say what’s happening in the street, is starting in the classroom, and City Schools police officers are not allowed to stop it.
“Arrests is not being made when they need to be made. We are turning our heads on it,” one of the whistleblowers told Project Baltimore.
Videos from inside City Schools show students fighting and teachers being attacked. Project Baltimore has heard from parents who are worried the violence has gotten out of control and made it difficult for other students to learn. Now, the two whistleblowers who have worked as Baltimore City Schools police officers, say the reason it’s gotten so bad, is because they were not allowed to do their jobs.
The whistleblowers tell Project Baltimore that City Schools is trying to keep arrest numbers down, because of “politics.”
