'Student Officers' Must Receive Same Pay as 'Sworn Officers,' Ma ... - Law.com

A Massachusetts Court of Appeals panel sided with three police officers this week, finding that the town of Brewster violated various wage laws after paying them a cadet wage rather than an entry-level police officer rate as they went through the police academy.

The appellate court vacated a summary judgment order entered in favor of Brewster by Barnstable Superior Court Judge Mark C. Gildea, and remanded the case to the lower court for entry of declaratory relief in favor of the plaintiffs, Daniel Lanctot, Brandon Rice and Morgan Vermette, according to the June 22 opinion.
