'Suchir Balaji Was Planning Legal Action Against OpenAI': Whistleblower’s Parents Reveal New Details - Times Now

The parents of Suchir Balaji, a whistleblower alleging copyright infringements by OpenAI, have voiced their astonishment regarding his purported suicide on an interview with Republic World. Balaji, aged 26, was discovered deceased in his San Francisco flat on November 27. The Chief Medical Examiner's Office of the city declared it a suicide. Nevertheless, his mother, Poornima Ramarao, claimed there was foul play in a recent interview, asserting that her son was “incredibly courageous” and unable to end his own life.

Discovery of the Body

Suchir's parents became worried after not receiving any news from him for several days. They submitted a police report and asked officers to inspect his apartment, according to Republic World's report. “The police opened the door, and that’s how we found out,” said Poornima. She disclosed that they were not allowed access to the crime scene and have not yet obtained any crime scene photos. “It doesn’t add up,” she asserted. “He went public with courage. Someone so bold would not take such a step.”

Life Before the Incident

On November 21, Suchir marked his birthday with friends and looked “upbeat and happy” during a vacation in Los Angeles and Catalina Island. “He had the time ofhis life,” remarked Poornima. She portrayed him as self-assured and joyful, even during the last encounter with friends, according to Suchir's mother who was quoted by Republic World.
