New Delhi: The family of former OpenAI researcher and whistleblower Suchir Balaji, who was found dead in a San Francisco apartment, has hired an independent investigator to examine his cause of death. The update was shared by his mother, Poornima Ramaraao, this morning. Suchir's family has set up a page on crowdfunding platform GoFundMe to meet the legal costs to continue to fight for justice.
In a post on X, Poornima Ramaraao said that the second autopsy "doesn't confirm cause of death stated by police".
"We hired private investigator and did second autopsy to throw light on cause of death. Private autopsy doesn’t confirm cause of death stated by police. Suchir’s apartment was ransacked, sign of struggle in the bathroom and looks like some one hit him in bathroom based on blood spots. It’s a cold blooded mu*d*r declared by authorities as suicide. Lobbying in SF city doesn’t stop us from getting justices. We demand FBi investigation," Ramaraao said in her post.
The GoFundMe page - Justice for Suchir Balaji - has raised nearly $20,000 in three days.
"Suchir Balaji was a whistleblower, he openly exposed OpenAi in X, New York Times and in his web site . A week after he was named as witness to New York Times, against OpenAI, he was found dead. His testimony would have impacted huge AI industry.
