Tamaqua police charged a Quakake man with being under the influence of a controlled substance after he told officers he believed his girlfriend was abducted, that someone was in his truck and that he needed an ambulance.
Police found none of the claims made by James Pester, 52, to be true.
According to police, Pester arrived at the police station on April 23 to report that his girlfriend called 911 from his garage in Mahanoy City. He claimed an ambulance took her away but because she was not at a hospital, he believed she was abducted.
Police said Pester was sweating profusely, his pupils were dilated and he was confused. He carried a cell phone in his hand and kept swiping its screen even though it was turned off, police said.
Officers said he then asked that they check his truck because someone was in it. Officers found no one. Police said Pester then claimed he was drugged and requested an ambulance. When the ambulance arrived, he went to the Turkey Hill and refused to go with the ambulance.
Police said Pester then asked to be placed in the department’s jail cell, where he was given water.
Officers followed up on his original claim about his girlfriend and learned that he also contacted the Mahanoy City Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville. Those departments also found his claims were false.
