TBI raids law firm independently investigating whistleblower complaint against Metro Nashvillle Police - WSMV 4

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Community Review Board (CRB) sent a letter to Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s office asking for an explanation as to why the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reportedly raided a law firm investigating a complaint made against the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The CRB sent the letter on Thursday, March 20, expressing deep concern after learning about the raid months after it happened.

In November 2024, the TBI reportedly executed a search warrant and seized files from a law firm independently investigating a 61-page document complaint against MNPD by former Lt. Garet Davidson.

The investigation began at the beginning of the summer of 2024 after Davidson alleged that staff at MNPD worked together to help get Nashville’s community oversight board abolished and accused MNPD officers of not having proper training, among other issues.

Following the complaint, an attorney from Butler Snow Law Firm, Edward Stanton III, was assigned to independently investigate the complaint.

“The unprecedented nature of this action raises serious questions about the state of the investigation and the rationale behind the state’s intervention,” the CRB said.
