He flagged a suspected drug on campus. Then came a ‘deepfake AI’ accusation
A Texas biotechnology teacher says a charter school network fired him over a “deepfake AI” accusation after he reported a suspected drug on campus.
The former career and technical education teacher has sued IDEA Public Schools in federal court, alleging he was pushed out through a false disciplinary case, unequal treatment, and retaliation for raising safety concerns. He filed the complaint on August 26, 2026, in the Southern District of Texas, and is representing himself.
As the filing tells it, the dispute started with campus safety. During student drop-off duty, the teacher says he found an unfamiliar item in an area students could reach and suspected it was an illegal drug. He handed it to a facilities manager, who, according to the complaint, later told him local police tested the item and confirmed it was an illegal drug. When the teacher warned colleagues over a campus Microsoft Teams chat to watch for unusual student behavior, the filing says a principal replied that the matter was already closed and deleted his message.
From there, the complaint describes a pattern of unequal treatment. The teacher, a 51-year-old man, alleges he was given classrooms that “lacked the laboratory infrastructure, safety equipment, and other resources” his subject required, while a female colleague hired to teach a related course got a newly furnished lab with a fume hood, eyewash station, and safety shower.
