Tennessee governor’s race: Rose accuses Blackburn of false statement on candidate forums - Action News 5

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - As the start of early voting approaches, the race for Tennessee Governor in the Republican primary has seen increased tension between candidates.

In an interview with Action News 5, Congressman John Rose has questioned frontrunner U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn’s statements regarding her participation in candidate forums alongside himself and State Representative Monty Fritts, another Republican candidate.

Rose disputes Blackburn’s claim

The discussion follows comments made by Blackburn, who said the trio had shared candidate forum stages. “With the Republicans, we have had lots of forums across the state and where all three of us have been on stage,” Blackburn stated. “That’s a good thing because people have been able to see us on stage [and] hear from us.”

When asked directly about the statement, Rose offered a different perspective. “That is not a truthful statement,” Rose said. “We haven’t been in a single forum where all three of us have been on stage. We’ve been at events where each of us has spoken to an audience, but in no case have we been in what I would call a forum.”

Rose, an upper middle Tennessee farmer and businessman, suggested that Blackburn has avoided direct engagement. He noted that while he and Fritts have participated in joint forums, Blackburn has repeatedly declined invitations.
