A new report has obtained documents and whistleblower information regarding “gender-affirming care” provided to children by Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH).
Reporting from Christopher Rufo, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, found that TCH has not complied with its own stated goal to end its practice of providing sex transitions to children.
In partnership with the Baylor College of Medicine, the Houston-based children’s hospital hosted a presentation on “Medical and Psychological Care of Gender-Diverse Youth” that showed guidelines on how to evaluate and apply the “gender affirmation process.”
Details included how “social affirmation,” defined as “adopting gender-affirming hairstyles, clothing, name, gender pronouns, and restrooms,” is applied to a patient of any age.
It also explains that puberty blockers and cross-sex hormone therapy are to be provided to patients during puberty and early adolescence. “Gender-affirming surgeries,” which include both “top” and “bottom” surgery for the chest and genitals respectively, are generalized to adults but also include “adolescents on case-by-case basis.”
Rufo’s report also contains leaked documents that show an 11-year-old patient being described as a “female-to male transgender person” and children from 11 to 15 years old diagnosed with “gender dysphoria” and administered an “insert non-biodegradable drug delivery implant.” Other children are described as “starting puberty blockers.”
