The U.S. Attorney's Office says the settlement is not an admission of guilt
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Club has agreed to pay $1,500,000 to resolve allegations that it illegally received emergency financial assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the US Attorney's Office in Buffalo.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says that in March 2021, the Buffalo Club allegedly applied for a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan and claimed it was eligible to receive funding. When it received the money, the Buffalo Club then allegedly pursued and received forgiveness for the entire loan.
The US Attorney's Office claims the Buffalo Club of falsely representing its eligibility to receive the loan because it operated as a private membership club that restricted membership for reasons that were unrelated to capacity.
The U.S. Attorney's Office clarifies that a settlement in a False Claims Act is not an admission of liability and all claims presented in the case are to be treated as allegations only.
