A Boeing whistleblower issued an eight-word warning to his close ones just days before his body was discovered. John Barnett, 62, was found dead in his truck at a hotel car park from a gunshot wound.
It was an apparent act of self harm. But, days before the discovery in Charleston, South Carolina in the US, he had told his family and friends that, "if anything happens to me, it's not suicide".
He issued the warning after accusing Boeing of fitting numerous aircraft with sub-standard parts. Mr Barnett, who worked as a quality inspector between 1985 and 2017, also claimed that workers were working under-pressure on an assembly line to do so.
The case is covered in a Netflix documentary, called Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing, which recently launched on the streaming giant. Boeing reportedly declined to cooperate for the documentary.
His friend, known as Jennifer, previously claimed he warned that if anything happened to him, it would not be his choice. She previously told WPDE: "I said, 'Aren't you scared?' And he said, 'No, I ain't scared, but if anything happens to me, it's not suicide.'
"I know that he did not commit suicide. There's no way. He loved life too much. He loved his family too much. He loved his brothers too much to put them through what they're going through right now."
